This house at Wayby, (pronounced Waybee), in a beautiful valley north of Auckland city, was built sustainably - utilising locally grown timbers and insulated with wool. It overlooks a wetland and the North Auckland rail line and river beyond. Situated on 2.5 acres of land the native bush has been fenced and allowed to regenerate. There are gardens, an orchard and a plantation of around 60 maturing trees, including redwoods, lusitanicas/macrocarpa and Australian blackwoods. There is a shade-house and chooks (hens) roam free. And there is a small flock of sheep. A local town for everyday shopping is 7 kms away and a larger town, Warkworth is 15 kms.
Sublime beaches, NZ's longest harbour and regional parks are all close by. Owned by a film designer for the past 20 years.
NZ native birds - both water fowl (pukeko, paradise ducks) and birds of the bush (tui, wax-eyes, fantails, kerero) - are in abundance.
